Gloria from Bolivia
Gloria comes from a small, impoverished village in Bolivia.
She was trained by CIES, IPPF’s Member Association in Bolivia, as a Community Health Educator. With the support of CIES, Gloria trained for four years to become a nurse and joined CIES’ Mobile Health Unit Project. She visits remote villages to discuss reproductive and sexual health issues, provides basic health care and, “always stays until the last patient is seen, no matter how long that takes.” Unlike most of the women in her community who have unplanned pregnancies beginning early in their teens, Gloria sees herself as a powerful example of what women can achieve if provided with the right resources.
“I am proud of the work I do and see myself as an example to other young women in the community”
