Giselle Carino

Director of Programs - Universal Access

Giselle works to advance IPPF/WHR’s contribution to closing the gap in universal access to sexual and reproductive health. She supports a multi-disciplinary team of experts and leads the development and integration of program strategies across the Safe Abortion, Access, Adolescents, and HIV/AIDS programs.

In a previous position, Giselle led IPPF/WHR work on Safe and Legal Abortion in alliance with partners such as Catholic for the Right to Decide, Orientame, and Iniciativas Sanitarias, among others. Under her tenure, Member Associations more than doubled abortion service provision, increased advocacy gains, and dedicated funding to the issue. Giselle also provided support to initiatives in the areas of gender-based violence, emergency contraception, and mobile health units with displaced populations in Colombia.

Prior to joining IPPF/WHR in 2003, Giselle worked for the Inter-American Parliamentary Group on Population and Development, where she developed policy briefings, proposed regulations, and trained Latin American and Caribbean members of Parliament and other policymakers on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Giselle received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in Argentina and has a Master of Public Administration from New York University. She is a co-founder and past coordinator of the Latin American Consortium Against Unsafe Abortion, where she serves as Advisory Member, and recently joined the Board of Directors of Women's Link Worldwide and the Safe Abortion Action Fund.
