Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA)
BFPA is a comprehensive family planning program that is considered to be the leading authority on sexual and reproductive health in Barbados. It works closely with the Ministry of Health to provide sexual and reproductive health information sessions, family planning and contraceptive services, testing and treatment of STIs, Pap smears, pre- and post-natal care, and pre- and post-abortion care. BFPA operates 81 centers around the country to increase access to family planning and runs a public awareness campaign on a number of health issues.
BFPA’s youth program includes a drop-in center with discussions on sexual and reproductive health, counseling, and contraceptive services. BFPA’s clinic has a special weekly time allotted for services for youth. The organization’s youth advocates regularly participate in sexual and reproductive health discussions on television and radio programs, and hold educational sessions on adolescent sexual and reproductive health in schools and at other youth venues.
