Sociedad Científica Cubana para el Desarrollo de la Familia (SOCUDEF)
SOCUDEF is an essential component of the Cuban national health system. It works within the government infrastructure to identify couples who have reproductive risk and help them to reduce this risk before they decide to reproduce. This involves informing them about contraception and the optimal timing of their pregnancy. They also work on the provision of sexual and reproductive health information and services, including abortion, to adolescents.
SOCUDEF is responsible for ensuring that family planning and sexual and reproductive health policy remain a high priority in the national health agenda. SOCUDEF participates in committees and international conferences where sexual and reproductive health decisions are made.
