Asociación Hondureña de Planificación de Familia (ASHONPLAFA)
ASHONPLAFA provides integrated sexual and reproductive health services from 28 clinics throughout Honduras. These services include pre- and post-natal care, contraceptives, abortion counseling, screening for gender-based violence, and HIV and STI testing and treatment. In 2010, 26% of ASHONPLAFA’s clients were poor, marginalized, or socially excluded. It offers subsidized services depending on the client’s ability to pay and operates mobile health units to reach people who live in rural areas.
With 60% of the population under the age of 25, ASHONPLAFA’s work with young people is critical. It has three youth centers, including one that exclusively caters to young people. Alongside youth-friendly services, ASHONPLAFA provides comprehensive sexuality education and a program that provides youth advocacy and peer education training. It is a part of IPPF/WHR's Mesoamerican Coalition and carries out national campaigns to promote comprehensive sexuality education and youth-friendly services.
